A Homage to Home

This illustration is a deeply personal depiction of the iconic chapel in São Vicente, Madeira, my beloved hometown in Portugal. Built into a piece of basalt rock around 1692, this site is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the northern coast and an enduring symbol of the town, connected to the local legend of the martyr Saint Vincent.

More than a mere landscape, this piece is an attempt to capture the feeling of a place steeped in memory. It evokes the quiet, peaceful moments of my childhood, playing here with my sister while our aunt and grandmother worked nearby, often pausing to enjoy the breathtaking view and the famous São Vicente sunset.
